گودی میں لے کے بیھٹی ہے زہرا سر ِحسین

Zehra sa is holding Hussain’s head in her lap

زخمی ہے ماں کے ہاتھوں لے جیسا سر ِحسین

Hussain’s head is injured like his mother’s hands

اک ماں دہائی دیتی رہی اور لعین نے

 A mother kept begging but that cursed one,

نیزے پہ رکھ کے زلفوں سے باندھا سر ِحسین

Tied up Hussain’s head to the spear through his hairs.

رکھا الگ الگ گیا صندق میں مگر

They were kept unconnectedly in separate boxes but, 

اکبر کے سر کے ساتھ ہی نکلا سر ِحسین

Hussain’s as head was then found with Akbar’s as head.

ناقے سے جتنی بار گری دختر ِحسین

Each time Hussain’s as daughter (Bibi Sakina) fell off the camel,

نیزے سے اُتنی بار گرا تھا سر ِحسین

Hussain’s as head fell off to the ground with her.

گودی میں اک بار تو اک بار قبر میں

Once in her (Sakina’s ) lap and once in her grave,

دو بار قید خانے میں آیا سر ِحسین

Hussain’s as head came into the prison twice.

شیریں سے جو کیا تھا وہ وعدہ نبھا دیا

He kept the promise that he had with Shireen,

پہنچے نہیں حسین تو پہنچا سر ِحسین

He (Hussain as) couldn’t be there himself, but his head went to her.

ایسے تو ذبح ہوتا نہیں گوسفند بھی 

Even a sheep is not slaughtered that way,

ہنس ہنس کے جیسے شمر نے کاٹا سر ِحسین

Like Shimar( LA) cunningly slaughtered Hussain’s as head

زینب کو یاد آگے بوسے رسول کے

Zainab remembered Rasool saw loving kisses,

راہوں میں پتھروں نے چوما سر ِحسین

When the stones embraced/kissed Hussain’s head along the way.

بالوں میں گرد ابرو تکلم کٹے ہوئے 

His (Hussain as) hairs were covered with sand and the eyebrows plucked,

اچھا ہوا نہ صغری نے دیکھا سر ِحسین

Sughra as could not bear to see Hussain’s head that way.
